PAULA FORMAN, Founder
Paula moved to Hudson to retire and write another book. She got hooked on girls and hasn't stopped thinking about Perfect Ten since the day it was born. She is involved in every aspect of the program, works with the girls almost everyday, and works with the school district and other community organizations to develop a broader network for Perfect Ten. Her past lives have included a career in advertising which led to the Presidency of a large New York agency, teaching at the university level, and authoring a published book. She has two independent children and a very cool husband. Paula is the original gritty girl.
EMILY SCHUIT, Director
Emily is a perpetual seeker, often asking questions like: Who are we? Why are we here? What can we contribute? As a committed supporter and advocate of youth, Emily prompts young people to explore these questions for themselves. Once a student at Cornell University, Emily was fascinated by the vast effects that our ever-changing digital media landscape have on youth, and, specifically, how screens alter children’s concepts of nature and environmental consciousness. After many curiosity pursuits— a sourdough bread baker, a marketing and communications specialist, an organic vegetable farmer, a community sustainability coordinator, a Montessori educator— Emily has landed at Perfect Ten where she motivates girls to discover and uncover curiosities of their own. She embraces the opportunities to learn about each girl's personal journey, to prompt critical thought, and to help girls find acceptance and love towards themselves and others. Emily is humbled to share divine space with such divine young women.
WHITNEY WILKENS-SPOONER, Program Coordinator
Whitney has been part of the Perfect Ten family since day one, as a volunteer mentor and girl-supporter. She is a long-time resident of Hudson, and has immersed herself in the many diverse areas of our local community. While raising her children in Huntington, NY, Whitney was an active volunteer at the Junior Welfare League as well as at local schools tutoring and advocating for students. She now runs her own business, Fred E Trout, an “as-found” items and lumber shop on Warren St. A highly skilled craftsperson, handywoman, and all-around creative, Whitney breathes life into every crevice of the clubhouse. Anyone who knows her knows she can be counted on, and she shows all the importance of commitment and a thorough follow-through. Whitney leads both the Sprouts and Buds programs, and is the ultimate mentor to young women of all ages.
TERESA MEZA, Program Coordinator
Teresa began mentoring with Perfect Ten in 2014. Soon after she was asked to come join the Perfect Ten team in leading the “Sprouts” program at the After School Program at Montgomery C. Smith Intermediate School. Teresa is also a part time actress. Her education and performance opportunities in the arts started over twenty years ago in Los Angeles (arriving in NYC in 97’) and continues to this day. She enjoys her time with the girls very much. Her favorite subject to teach is drama, of course, and having the girls explore their imaginations in their journals.
APPEI (FAITH) PORBENI, Social Justice Coordinator
A poet at heart, Faith is guided by her love for the arts and her passion for creativity. She often says her imagination is her greatest asset and her greatest sense of entertainment. She has a deep love for learning from others and sharing what she's learnt and encourages others to share their deepest revelations, no matter how odd they may seem (after all, knowledge that isn't shared is essentially good for nothing). Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, she moved to the US for her college education and has been enamored with the culture shift and how others live and thrive in environments that are very unlike hers. She strongly believes that the key to solving the world's problems lie in communication, empathy, and understanding of our fellow individual and Faith hopes to foster a change in which people are more open about their emotions. She has a deep love for Christ, novels, video games, comic books, and just about anything nerdy.
