All P-Ten girls will automatically be part of our RESET program. RESET is a program providing tutoring, advocacy and mentorship. This important program is brought to us in part by generous grants from Hudson River Bank and Trust, Rheinstrom Hill Community Foundation, Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation and The Fund for Columbia County for which we are very grateful
Aerial Yoga
Practicing self calming exercises, learning basic yoga and the benefit of de-stressing through movement
Jewelry Making
Shana teaches the girls how to make jewelry from scratch using sterling silver wire. The girls learn every aspect of the trade from design to production to cost, marketing etc. Girls have the opportunity to make themselves one-of-a-kind pieces. Beautiful jewelry is produced for fundraisers and markets and the occasional thank you gifts for our supporters
Processional Arts
This is a creative puppeteer class that uses recycled/up-cycled materials. Encouraging critical thinking, engineering and self motivation. The girls are given a theme to work from to spark their creative side. This project is based on community participation and we work with many other organizations
Flying Deer NATURE CENTER
Outdoor nature center & wilderness school. Our time there encourages team building, confidence, nature skills and a love of the natural world
Cooking/Baking with Amy
The workshop is designed to make the girls aware of the nutritional value of food and the benefits of using high quality ingredients for a better flavor. By baking with weighed ingredients, the recipes are more accurate and allow an understanding of portion control and therefore healthier baking/cooking
Horseback Riding
Therapeutic riding at High & Mighty in Ghent, NY which helps build self esteem and control. It also instills the idea of having responsibilities, the importance of doing a thorough job and caring for another living creature
I Am
Exploring identity through art, poetry & creative writing with Sasha Sicurella
Debate Club
The girls learn reasoning and logic, listening to differences of opinion and healthy arguing
Columbia Land Conservancy
This time exposes the girls to nature, wildlife and their local area. They also learn basic survival skills and the pleasure and benefits of hiking
Upcycling
The intent of this workshop is to show the girls the value of waste by up-cycling ordinary objects that are typically discarded. Often producing items for sale at Farm & Flea or other markets. It also teaches them how to keep usable items out of the landfill
All About Me
A creative writing class that gets the girls to look within themselves for confidence and explore their feelings, allowing them to understand why they feel as they do about themselves and their surroundings
Florent
Florent is a woman-owned maker of botanical skincare in Hudson. During this workshop Mary, the founder, teaches the girls about plants and their medicinal qualities. The girls will use extractions to learn how to make facial products. They will also learn about owning and running a business and all the other skills that it requires.
We also offer the Sprouts program through Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School
This program is for girls in 4th and 5th grade
Past and Future Workshop Offerings:
THIS IS ME
This workshop is geared towards allowing the girls to reconnect with their inner child through writing. This opens up their minds and hearts to allow them to freely express themselves
GETTING TO KNOW THE POLICE
Three female officers will be speaking with the girls, sharing their personal path to a career in law enforcement. This in turn will help build a positive relationship with the community and the girls
INTRO TO JOURNALISM
Peter will help the girls create a piece about Hidden Figures. Dissecting and reporting on the story line and reasons why this is such a strong and important story
SCULPTURE
Using wire armatures and papier maché the girls, with the guidance of Jim, made sculptures of people these were displayed at The New Gallery in Hudson at the end of the workshop
DANCE
Basic dance instruction culminating in a tap dance recital
AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE
The girls had the opportunity to learn American sign language
