Aerial Yoga

The girls practice self calming exercises, learning basic yoga and the benefit of de-stressing through movement.

Silversmithing

Shana Lee teaches the girls how to make jewelry from scratch using sterling silver wire. The girls learn every aspect of the trade, from design to production to cost, marketing, etc. They have the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Beautiful jewelry is produced for fundraisers, markets, and the occasional thank-you gifts for our supporters and of course beautiful pieces for themselves.

Processional Arts

This is a creative puppeteer class that uses recycled and up-cycled materials. It encourages critical thinking, engineering, and self-motivation. The girls are given a theme to work from to spark their creativity. This project is based on community participation, and we collaborate with many other organizations.

Cooking with Sylvia Center

The workshop is designed to make the girls aware of the nutritional value of food and the benefits of using high-quality ingredients for better flavor. By baking with weighed ingredients, the recipes are more accurate and allow an understanding of portion control, which leads to healthier baking/cooking.

B-Side

The B side of a record is where the deep cuts live—the complex, idiosyncratic songs that true connoisseurs appreciate most. In that same spirit, B Sides celebrates the beauty of imperfection.

Claire and Stacy of B Sides are giving the girls a view into the world of design through a thoughtful workshop that is all-encompassing, from the inspiration to the mission of their small women-owned business. The girls are in the process of designing original outfits that will go from a drawing on paper to finished garments manufactured by B Sides workshop in Brooklyn. The workshop will culminate in Brooklyn when the girls pick up their finished projects.

FarmOn

Micelea, of FarmOn, leads a one-week immersive workshop on regenerative farming practices, teaching the girls every aspect of sustainable agriculture. From selecting crops that enhance soil health and conserve water to understanding weather patterns, natural pest repellents, and planting compatible crops to reduce labor, the workshop provides a comprehensive foundation. The girls also learn to consider the community’s needs to lower its carbon footprint and practice gleaning fields—identifying when vegetables are ready for harvest and leaving some behind to sustain future growth and minimize waste. The workshop culminates in the girls designing their own farm plan, applying all they’ve learned to create a thoughtful and sustainable agricultural model.

Columbia Land Conservancy

This time exposes the girls to nature, wildlife, and their local area. They also learn basic survival skills and the pleasures and benefits of hiking.
